Be prepared to change your opinion about Portuguese wines for ever!
Fine lifestyle, fine wines - fine choice to drink for yourself or as that special present.
The wines of Quinta de Macedos are something of a phenomenon - modern cosmopolitan lifestyle wines, and not at all what the world has come to expect of Portuguese wines. Made from traditional Portuguese varietals, they are vivid expressions of the "terroir" and wonderful examples of the "New Douro" wines.
As a group they are wines both for drinking, and to enhance a meal. If you cook, these wines say as much about you as the menu you plan. Take one as a guest and you will always be welcome again as all will not only delight, but be a serious surprise into the bargain.
Pinga do Torto - the most accessible of the Quinta's wines, drinking now, urgent, compelling and flambouyant. The 2003 vintage is a spectacular mouthful of sunshine and spice.
Lagar de Macedos - Made from the 'younger' vines planted as recently as 1945! The first vintage produced only 1,825 bottles, and in order to give as many people the opportunity to taste the Reynolds family have decided to allow each buyer no more than a dozen bottles.
Quinta de Macedos - a veritable heavyweight among wines, the 2002 vintage is set to lay down and keep for sometime. Such purity of fruit and precocious with tannins, if you want to drink it now it's well worth opening it the night before you plan to drink it. With the vintage yielding only 2,500 bottles, purchase is restricted to 12 bottles per buyer.
