Hand-planted generations ago, Quinta de Macedos lies deep in the Torto valley nestled on the north facing slope of the river. As a small family business, we strive to maintain the heritage and tradition of Douro winemaking.
Our 10ha vineyard, is a mix of young and ancient vines, nurtured and handled with care, to produce a precious yearly organic crop. The grapes are handpicked and trodden in Lagares and our wines are bottled and aged on the property. We welcome guests to stay at the Quinta and be a part of our story.
Our vines share their habitat with the natural Douro flora.
In spring, the terraces are covered with wild flowers- Lavender, Rock Roses, Aniseed, Rosemary, Thyme, Penny Royal, Red Poppies, Sweet Williams. Every 6 years we till the soil, using a horse and plough and we increase the organic content of the soil by spreading our pomace amongst the vines. All this enables the grapes to ripen in a balanced and natural soil.
The Quinta offers accommodation for up to 10 guests all year round in 5double bedroom suites.
We welcome individuals, small groups or exclusive whole house rentals. The house has indoor and outdoor dining areas, a sitting room, a media room and a fully equipped modern kitchen. The 15 m pool and large sun terraces boast spectacular views across the vineyard.
